Secretary Schools Punjab Khalid Nazir Wattoo said in a statement that winter vacations will begin in Punjab from December 20.

The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) is expected to announce the winter school holiday schedule for Islamabad schools and colleges soon.

Traditionally, the FDE designates a one-week winter break during the coldest days of the season. However, this year, with a delay in the usual onset of cold weather, the break is anticipated to take place from December 21 to December 29, with schools likely to reopen on December 30.

There’s also a chance the break could extend until December 31, which would push the reopening date to January 1, 2025.

After the winter break, the FDE is expected to review school hours to accommodate seasonal changes.

Separately, the Punjab School Education Department is also preparing to announce its winter holiday schedule. In Punjab, schools generally close for two weeks in December due to extreme weather conditions.

This year, the winter break is expected to start on December 21 and end on January 1, with schools reopening afterward. However, the final dates may be adjusted based on weather patterns.

December in Punjab typically sees temperatures drop to around 7-8 degrees Celsius, accompanied by heavy fog, which can make travel to school challenging for students.
